This moderate-income garden apartment cooperative housing complex with over 4,000 residents, including 1,000 senior citizens, in Little Neck, New York. Heating costs were growing rapidly for the complex.

Keeping all residents warm while staying within an energy budget is challenging in the best of times and daunting with today’s rising energy costs.

The Challenge:

Apply IntelliCon on 25 boilers across the complex and achieve significant energy savings for the long haul.

The IntelliCon®-CHS control was installed on a Rockmills Boiler / Webster Burner combination.

25 boilers were operated 7x24 throughout a 2 year period from 2005 through 2007.

The Results:

Energy Savings: Having treated all 25 boilers located at the Garden Apartment Complex over time since 2005 we were asked to provide an analysis of the boiler efficiency improvements. Having reviewed billing information provided directly from the Garden Apartment Complex office the following are the results of the analysis of 2005 fuel consumption to 2007 fuel consumption. An average of 25% reduction in fuel consumption with annual savings of $304,175.13 with another 8% in taxes the total savings $328,509.14 The IntelliCon-CHS provided tangible energy savings with no change in the building’s comfort level for any of the tenants. The large reduction in boiler cycles means extended life for those systems, with a similar reduction in attendant maintenance costs.
