Erial Elementary School

The Customer: Erial Elementary School

The Erial Elementary School is part of the of the Gloucester Township school district in Southern New Jersey. Aging boilers, all of which were at least 15 years old, were wasting precious dollars that could be used more effectively for educating students. These boilers were no longer working up to maximum capacity and wasting fuel.

The Challenge:

Allied Energy, an energy services company in New Jersey, explained how the school district could extend the usefulness of its boilers AND save on its heating bills with a simple, inexpensive solution—the IntelliCon® Economizer.

The superintendent could see the potential savings and agreed to a pilot test on one of the three elementary school’s boilers.

Facility: Elementary School.

Location: Sicklerville, New Jersey.

The Products Used:

IntelliCon-LCH - Light-Commercial Heat Economizer

The IntelliCon- LCH control was installed on an H.B. Smith boiler, used strictly for hydronic heating, with the other two remaining as is.

The boilers were operated 7x24 throughout the 26-day test period in March.

The Results:

Energy Savings: In all cases, the IntelliCon controls provided tangible energy savings with no change in building comfort levels for faculty, staff and students. The large reduction in boiler cycles means extended life for those systems, with a similar reduction in attendant maintenance costs.

Payback Period: Based on these test results, the school district could expect that its IntelliCon investment would pay for itself in less than 12 months. The likely payback period will be shorter when including savings derived from lower maintenance costs and extended boiler lives.

Final Notes: Immediately after reviewing the results, the Superintendent installed IntelliCon units on the remaining two boilers at the Erial Elementary School. In addition, the 18 remaining schools are adding IntelliCon controls to their boilers.
