Intellidyne makes Greening Levittown a big success
Citizens see proven energy savings with Intellidyne economizers
 Glen Cove, NY– It's working! The Intellidyne IntelliCon®-HW+ Hot Water Heating System Fuel Economizers are making a great success out of Levittown's—the famed New York suburb—initiative to go green as a way of celebrating its 60th birthday.
Intellidyne contributed by installing—for free—its IntelliCon-HW+ Hot Water Heating System Fuel Economizers in 50 Levittown homes. It also offers all other families in the town discounts on the microprocessor-control devices. This is important in a town in which many of the boilers are original from when the homes were built in 1947. Installation of the IntelliCon-HW+ economizers began on January 3, 2008, and 53 residents have already taken advantage of the opportunity to increase their boilers’ efficiency and decrease their energy consumption and costs.
And that is exactly what's happening, with homeowners already seeing proven reductions on their fuel usage. One Wantagh Avenue family had an average savings of 6.8 %, or approximately 57 gallons of fuel saved, and a Loring Road home benefited with a savings of 14.9%, or approximately 60 gallons of fuel. According to Mike Ruff, chief operating officer of Intellidyne, "For the average home, that works out to be between $350 and $400 in savings annually, as well as a reduction of carbon dioxide and particulate emissions into the environment." Not only that, the Levittown families are assured these advantages with no sacrifice of comfort.
The IntelliCon-HW+ reduces energy consumption by dynamically adjusting the burner run pattern to match the system's "heat load" of hot water heating systems, thanks to state-of-the-art microprocessor-based dynamic management. An illuminated LCD display shows runtime savings, and payback is typically 1 to 2 heating seasons.
Intellidyne economizers have an outstanding record of energy saving, with a typical reduction of 10% to 20% in energy use. A study by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority shows an average energy savings of 13% and reduction of emissions by as much as 50% after the control was installed.
In this era of "green" sensibility, the Green Levittown project will become a model example which will continue to play out in the press over the next 18 months or so. The project is the brainchild of Nassau County executive Thomas Suozzi, and it has gotten national and even international attention, with the Canadian press also covering the project. Green Levittown is sponsored by eight companies who specialize in sustainability products, from energy-saving devices to home improvement to financing.
There is a community celebration with a special focus on "Green Levittown" scheduled to take place on March 8, 2008. Another major event is scheduled for Earth Day in April that will focus on the efficiencies and economies the town is realizing through its citizens.
